Americans love 4th of July Fireworks.
Whether we buy our own small sized fireworks, or we go see a Fireworks show, we celebrate Independence Day with fireworks.
Due to the economic troubles America is facing, many cities are not hosting fireworks shows this year. Jersey City, in New Jersey, USA, for example, estimates that it cannot afford the $250,000 price tag of a fireworks show this year.

As Americans everywhere are getting ready to celebrate Independence Day on July 4th this year, it is important to revisit our democratic principles, and the direction of the policies that our country is following.

As members of American democracy, it is important for citizens to be active and informed voters and participants in the democratic proccess. Without an educated, interested, and active citizenry, any democracy would be greatly lacking. Certain issues, such us religion, need to be openly and meaningfully discussed in America so as to not cause division, but cohesion. It is healthy to debate issues in a way that serves the good of the people, and follows American constitution.

Here is a television interview in which the phrase “In God we Trust” is discussed.

USA News: American Educational System

The American educational system is a hot political topic in current news.
In the name of fiscal responsibility, American politicians have been systematically cutting funding for many decades from education at the K-20 levels, meaning elementary school, middle school, high school, community colleges, and universities.
California public schools rank 47th out of 50 for per-student spending, and yet more financial cuts are scheduled. Thousands of teachers have lost their jobs, and many students are suffering the consequences in overcrowded classrooms, and lack of conducive learning environments.
While in other parts of the world education is considered sacred, and educators are revered and honored members of society, teachers in America are not so lucky. Although functioning in difficult classroom conditions, they are constantly ridiculed by the press and blamed by politicians. Unlike other countries, the responsibility of education isn’t placed on the student and family, but on the teacher. Thus, when students fail state tests, or don’t graduate high school, they are not given appropriate accountability. American society’s focus on entertainment and comfort, on immediacy or instant gratification, is rarely, if ever, discussed by the media as a dilemma Americans must solve and overcome. If being financially successful is the goal in America, then education is simply a tool to gain material goods.

Crime in America has reached disproportionate numbers as compared to other industrialized nations. Can you believe that there is an estimated 2 million people in the American jail system? If you consider that most long term American jail inmates cost the American tax payer over $50,000 a year, it is no wonder that there is a negative economic impact because of this.
